Coach Derryck, a native of the Bronx, NY, began his tennis coaching career in Atlanta in 1999 as a coaching assistant at Kross Tennis Academy in Norcross, GA under the guidance of Kwannish Ross. He quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the directors of the Junior Tennis Early Development program before branching out onto his own. Additionally, he has spent years learning the nuances of the game under the mentorship of accomplished coaches such as Torrey Hawkins, Jason Parker, Charles Byrd, and Henry Darko.

As an independent instructor since 2001, he has coached more than seven ALTA & USTA adult teams in North Atlanta to City Championships, and brings 19 years of adult & junior competitive coaching expertise to the Standard Club. Derryck is a USPTR certified instructor with the highest rating of Professional in the areas of 10 & under Junior Development, Adult Development, and High Performance Junior Development. He recently completed qualification for entry into the USPTR’s new Master of Tennis program.
He attended Brown University as an undergraduate, and is married to his wife of 28 years, Karen, with three children — Trevor, Evan, and Naomi. Daughter Naomi is beginning her own tennis career as a junior tournament player.

Coach Derryck passionately loves the sport of tennis and is a valued asset to the Byrd & Darko Tennis Academy. He brings a high energy approach to coaching that he uses to teach students from beginners to highly ranked juniors, as well as adults from C to AA levels. He strives to continually motivate and inspire his students through his hard work, no nonsense approach, coupled with a dedication and commitment to his craft.
